Wecome to Jhargram KVK, West Bengal


          Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s (KVK), the farm science centers have been claimed as one of the major institutional innovations of the NARS (National Agricultural Research System) in India. KVKs act as knowledge and resource centers for the district extension system in India. KVKs are fully sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and are authorized to organize technology assessment and refinement. Apart from this KVK also organize demonstrations to provide technological backstopping to state agencies at the district level and training to farmers. Agriculture is considered to be a state subject it means that states are mainly responsible for agricultural development. But KVKs are centrally sponsored. The KVKs work closely with the state governments in providing information and knowledge on latest innovations, along with technologies and updates on agriculture and allied sectors for district agricultural development. Erstwhile Jhargram KVK was associated with Seva Bharati, Kapgari, Jhargram, a NGO founded by eminent agricultural scientist Prof. Pabitra Kumar Sen, since 1976 and it was the first KVK in West Bengal. But due to different reasons Indian Council of Agricultural research (ICAR), New Delhi has transferred KVK from Seva Bharati to Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (State Agricultural University) vide it’s letter no.- F.NO.A.Extn.09/01/2019-AE-I, Dated - 17th March, 2021, in the financial year 2021-22. Jhargram KVK is situated at Vill. - Kadamkanan, P.O & Distt.: Jhargram, West Bengal – 721507, Latitude and 22˚27ʹ21ʺ N and Longitude -87˚00ʹ33ʺ. Jhargram KVK have total 34.44 acre land and is situated in the district headquarter.
          In fact, the entire area is rain-fed agriculture, drought-prone with undulant topography and is one of the most backward areas of West Bengal. The major upland are mostly wasteland which to be turned into a greener patches by agro-forestry, horti-forestry, social-forestry with quick growing plans.In order to achieve this goal, four mandates have been envisaged in the design of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Click Here for Mandates fo KVK).
